About Us

Throughout the course of the year, any student can participate in extracurricular ensemble projects. These happen outside of your timetabled hours and are open to all courses. It is a great opportunity to engage in music outside of your course, or further expand your learning on your primary study. You will meet so many new people sharing a common interest, and most importantly, all the projects are designed to be enjoyed!

Read below for the projects we have available for 26/27, and click on the link to sign up to each ensemble.

Contact Information

You can reach us via email at g.bush@lcm.ac.uk or visit us in the Library. We’re generally available: Monday – Friday, 9am – 4:30pm. However this may vary – please be patient when awaiting a response!

Orchestra

Find out about our Orchestra, and how you can get involved!

This year we have three Orchestral Projects – all of which are equally exciting!

Semester 1

In semester 1 we have two projects. The first of those will be conducted by Helen Harrison, with rehearsals on Tuesday evenings. Then, in December enrichment week, we will be learning, rehearsing and performing a screening of ‘The Stickman’ at Brodrick Hall, Leeds Museum.

Semester 2

In Semester 2, we will be once again working with Manchester Camerata, the University of Leeds, and Orchestras Live on a large scale collaborative concert which will take place in April! Rehearsals are once again on Tuesday evenings and will be led by Ben Crick.

Alongside these three projects we will also be doing a ‘Film Rewind’ Day at the end of April, performing and recording original work by Film Music Students, accompanying short films. These are usually really fun recording days, and an opportunity to bring excellent student work to life.

Auditions

Auditions for Orchestra will take place on 28th and 29th September. By auditioning, you will be eligible to play in all three projects, and be considered to play in the Musical Theatre Pit Band at the end of the year (more information below) – anyone interested in playing for the orchestra must audition, even if you were part of last year’s projects.

Sign up for an Orchestra Audition using our sign up form. You can also use this form to sign up for Wind Orchestra.

LC Pop Choir

Find out about our Pop Choir, and how you can get involved!

The LC Pop Choir is a dynamic choral group that performs unique arrangements of well-known rock, pop, and gospel songs. The Pop Choir has been running for 11 years, recent years have involved packed schedule of events, including an appearance at The Royal Albert Hall as finalists in the ‘How Sweet The Sound’ competition, involvement in Britain’s Got Talent 2025, and multiple collaborations with Jet2 (including THE voice of Jet2!) at various London Train Stations.

We welcome new members from all voice types across the Conservatoire. For the audition, candidates should prepare a 90-second piece that best showcases their voice, using a range of dynamics, techniques, and vocal textures. If you were a member of the choir last year, you are not required to audition again. Auditions will take place on Thursday 24th September. Sign up for an LC Pop Choir Audition using our form.

LC Jazz Orchestra

Find out about our Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, and how you can get involved!

This year, the LC Jazz Orchestra is being taken in an exciting new direction, welcoming a ‘Resident Musical Director’ to deliver two projects across the year. Both projects will involve a standard ‘Big Band’ set-up, but won’t be limited to just traditional big-band playing. In semester 2, we will be collaborating with Dance Students from the School of Drama in a final extravaganza concert in April.

We welcome students across all pathways (including singers) to audition for the Jazz Orchestra. Audition for this ensemble will be via video submission, and more details will be given to you following your sign up.

Wind Orchestra

Find out about our Wind Orchestra, and how you can get involved!

Wind Orchestra is open to all wind players and percussionists. We play a wide and diverse range of repertoire, aiming to represent many composers on the project. Last year, we delivered an all female/LGBTQ+ ally composed concert, conducted by Steph Godwin.

Wind Orchestra takes place in both Semester 1 and Semester 2 this year; the conductors will be announced soon (but do expect to see some familiar faces here). Rehearsals for Wind Orchestra this year are on Wednesday evenings.

Unlike the orchestra, if you audition for Wind Orchestra, you are guaranteed a place in it (as long as you play to a standard of Grade 7+ equivalent on your instrument). We aim to include as many as we can, regardless of instrument. Use our form to sign up for a Wind Orchestra Audition (you can also use this link to sign up for Orchestra).

Pit Band

Find out about our Pit Band, and how you can get involved!

We are excited to announce that the end of year Musical Theatre show will be one of Beauty and the Beast or Les Miserables. The official announcement will follow!

You can be considered for Pit Band if you are doing an Orchestral Audition – if you are not doing an orchestral audition, we will ask you for a video submission. To register interest for Pit Band, please fill out the form.

Folk Ensemble

Find out about our Folk Ensemble, and how you can get involved!

Folk Ensemble is a non-auditioned ensemble, and is designed for folk and non-folk students to approach and develop their skills in a genre they may or may not be familiar to. These sessions will take place on an early evening in order for them to be accessible to all. The ensemble will work towards a jam-session at ‘Crossroads’, a termly Folk Showcase Concert.

Auditions are not required, but please still sign up using the form to register your interest.

LC Chorus

Find out about LC Chorus, and how you can get involved!

The LC Chorus is a classical choir open to all students, and does not require an audition to join. We meet on Fridays in Room 416a/b to rehearse at 5-7pm, and is a great opportunity to learn new choral repertoire and meet new singers either on or outside of your course. This year the LC Chorus is being directed by Chris Pulleyn, who directed last year’s Opera Project

Auditions are not required, but please still sign up using the form to register your interest.

We are particularly keen to recruit tenors and basses for the Chorus – so if this is you, please consider signing up!
