About The Fees & Funding Team
The Fees & Funding team can:
- Help you apply for Student Finance
- Work out what you are eligible for, and ensure you receive your full entitlements.
- We can contact Student Finance on your behalf, with your permission.
- We also provide support and advice on managing your money as a student.
You can refer yourself into our service by completing the Student Support referral form.

Applicant Information
If you are an applicant to Leeds Conservatoire and haven’t fully enrolled yet, you should refer to the information about Fees & Funding on the main conservatoire website.
The Student Funding team will be able to advise you on the during the application process.
Student Finance
Student Finance England (SFE) offer financial support to students during their studies including loans, grants, and bursaries. Most Home (UK) Students access this support when funding their studies.
You apply for support through SFE, the Student Funding team at the conservatoire can assist and advise you through this process.

Undergraduate Students
Information about fees and funding if you are a home student on one of our undergraduate programmes.
Undergraduate Tuition Fees
- Most Home (UK) undergraduate students will not have to pay tuition fees upfront whilst studying
- Tuition fee loans are available to UK undergraduate students, which are only paid back according to how much you earn when you graduate, and not how much you have borrowed
- If you are an EU national starting on or after the 1st August 2021 your fee status may be home or overseas, depending on your circumstances. See more below.
Other information about your fees & loan
Maintenance Loan Payments
Maintenance loans are available to most UK undergraduate students to help with living costs. These are paid back on the same basis as the tuition fee loan. Your maintenance loan payments are usually made within 4 days of the start of each undergraduate teaching block:
- Start of semester 1 – see below.
- Start of semester 2
- First teaching week after the Easter holiday break

New Undergraduates
For your student loans, if you have registered with Leeds Conservatoire online, and you have received a Notification of Entitlement about your student finance, you will receive your maintenance loan after you collect your ID card.
ID cards will be issued at the enrolment sessions from, see the enrolment, induction, and welcome information to find your programme’s enrolment dates.
Payments take up to 4 working days to reach your account.
Returning Undergraduates
You will receive your maintenance loan on, or within 4 working days, of the start of Enrolment, Induction and Welcome week, as long as you re-enrol with the conservatoire online and receive a Notification of Entitlement from the Student Loan Company.
Undergraduate Bursaries & Scholarships
Leeds Conservatoire provides a range of additional Scholarships and Bursaries.
The Student Funding Team can provide additional advice on these.
Leeds Conservatoire Bursary
All eligible Home (UK) undergraduate students (new and returning) may receive a cash bursary based on household income:
| Household Income | Bursary |
| £0 – £25,000 | £800 |
| £25,001 – £42,875 | £400 |
- Based on your Student Finance income assessment.
- Paid in two instalments: November (50%) and March (50%).
- No application needed – we’ll assess automatically. You need to apply for the “income-assessed” part of Student Finance for us to check your eligibility, even if you don’t take the loan.

Postgraduate Students
Information about fees and funding if you are a home student on one of our taught postgraduate programmes.
Postgraduate Tuition Fees
- Home (UK) postgraduate students may be able to receive a Master’s Loan to help fund their studies.
- Leeds Conservatoire Undergraduate Alumni who proceed on to one of our Postgraduate programmes can receive a 10% discount on tuition fees. This is available to Home (UK), EU, and International students.
- Others sources of funding may be available to you, see below.

Leeds Conservatoire Postgraduate Bursary
Leeds Conservatoire provides a range of additional Scholarships and Bursaries for postgraduate students. The Student Funding Team can provide additional advice on these.
Bank Loans
Consider speaking to your own bank, or other banks, about what special schemes they have for graduates; they may offer postgraduate study loans.
You may find that interest rates are quite favourable if you shop around. Bear in mind that the bank may only lend if you have kept your account in good order whilst an undergraduate.
Help Musicians
Previously known as Musicians Benevolent Fund, Help Musicians has some useful information on its website, including an article about funding for postgraduate study, where you can find advice for charities/grant making trusts who may help.
They also have their own education awards scheme.

International Students
Information about fees and funding if you are an overseas student on one of our undergraduate or taught postgraduate programmes.
International Student Tuition Fees
- If you are a student from outside the United Kingdom, your fee status is determined by UK government regulations.
- International students do not receive funding from Student Finance or other benefits in the UK. You are required to have enough funds to cover your tuition and living costs.
- UKCISA are an independent charity who can advise international students about a range of topics, including tuition fees.
- You may qualify for Home status if you meet specific criteria, UKCISA have further guidance on this.
